All segments of infrastructure are in good growth phase: Atlas Copco MD

Atlas Copco Power Technique, an on-site provider of air, power and flow solutions, is quite positive of its growth prospects this year.

Nitin Lall, General Manager, Power Equipment, Atlas Copco, said the power technique business vertical of the company, which deals with products such as portable compressors, pumps, light towers and generators, along with a host of complementary products, has registered 20 per cent growth in business over the last fiscal.

“All segments of infrastructure are in a state of good growth,” he added. India is one of the most attractive destinations for investment in the construction equipment sector.

Increased impetus on development of the country’s road, rail, waterways, dams, petroleum etc, has resulted in higher growth momentum in the construction equipment area with domestic and multi-national companies participating in such projects in a big way, he said.

‘Handy products’

“Our focus has largely been on roads.

“We have a range of products that are handy. Most of these are hand-held tools, including brakers, small blasting equipment, light towers, portable compressors and so on.”

Atlas Copco is a 144-year old Swedish company which set foot in India six decades ago by setting up its plant in Pune.

“We have two manufacturing facilities in India. The second plant was established roughly 40 months ago on an investment of ₹100 crore.

“It is a greenfield project on a 25-acre land, in close proximity to the old plant. We continue to innovate in the new facility,” Lall said, adding that the facilities will continue to make products for the Indian market.

The firm’s revenue in 2016-17 was ₹1,152 crore, he said.
