Indian Railways, which moves over 2 crore passengers and 60 million tonne of cargo every day, launched its official page on social network platforms – Twitter, Facebook – and YouTube.
It has also launched a phone number – 022-45012222 – which people can dial to hear the budget.
Social media was used extensively by Narendra Modi during his election campaign and continued doing so after forming the Government.
Enquiry number Railways phone enquiries number – 139 – will also become toll free, said Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha.
“Anybody who has a mobile phone should be able hear from us…As soon as budget is presented, budget information will appear on this account....This is being done to communicate with common man directly,” said,” said Railway Minister DV Sadananda Gowda, who will present the railway budget on Tuesday.
When asked about who will manage the interactive system, Gupta said, “All the work has been done by the Ministry. It will be voice-based.”
