Pakistani drones spotted near Jammu airport, anti-drone measures activated

Officials reported that counter-drone measures were promptly activated, with several drones being neutralized.

Sounds resembling blasts caused panic in Jammu city late on Thursday evening as security forces detected Pakistani drones near the heavily-guarded airport here, officials said.

It was not immediately known whether the airport, which also houses an Indian Air Force station, is under attack.

Jammu plunged into darkness with electricity snapped soon after two powerful explosions were heard in the vicinity of the airport.

Officials said counter-measures have been initiated and a few Pakistani drones were downed by the Indian anti-drone system.

According to some eyewitness, one of the drones was seen dropping outsides the airport.

Pak troops shell J-K's Kupwara, Baramulla from across LoC

Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked shelling along the Line of Control in Kupwara and Baramulla districts of Jammu and Kashmir late on Thursday evening with the Indian armed forces retaliating effectively, officials said.

The Boniyar sector of Baramulla and the Tangdhar sector of Kupwara district were targeted by Pakistan but there were no reports of any casualty so far.

On the intervening night of May 7 and 8, the Pakistan Army fired small arms and artillery guns across the LoC in areas opposite Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri and Akhnoor sectors in J-K. The Indian Army responded proportionately.

Most of the civilian population in the Karnah area had moved to safer areas on Wednesday as Pakistani troops resorted to shelling after Indian armed forces pounded terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir under Operation Sindoor.

Shelling noise heard in Jaisalmer

A loud sound, likely of shelling, was heard in Jaisalmer on Thursday, police sources said. A top officer confirmed that a sound was heard in Jaisalmer. Forces are on high alert and border districts remain under a blackout.

Punjab sets up control room

The Punjab government on Thursday set up a control room to oversee the situation on the ground, as the tension between India and Pakistan escalated.

The revenue disaster management control room has set up landline phone numbers 0172-2741803 and 0172-2749901 to be contacted by the general public in case of an emergency, a government spokesperson said.

Haryana bans leave in health, police departments

 The Haryana government has proscribed any leave in the health and police department till further orders, according to an order issued Thursday, as the armed conflict between India and Pakistan intensifies.

According to a communication to the civil surgeons, all the officials must remain present at their current places of posting and will not leave the district headquarters, nor will any leave application be approved till further orders.

In case anyone needs to go on leave, the application will only be approved by the state headquarters, it says.
