Kerala Water Resources Minister P J Joseph has hinted that the State Government would not be able to indefinitely put off a revision of water tariff.

Public utility Kerala Water Authority was being asked to submit a revised proposal for the purpose, the Minister told newspersons here.

Prevailing tariff were fixed years ago and did not reflect today’s costs and hence the need for a revision, the Minister said.

Mullaperiyar case

He also said that the State would move the Supreme Court with a review petition in the Mullaperiyar case. Legal consultations were on to ensure that the petition gets filed by the month-end.

The State would also initiate steps needed to protect its interests in the Cauvery Tribunal award. Tenders have been floated for building a dam on the Pambar.

Regulators and check-dams would come up on the Bhavani and Kabini rivers. As per the award, the State’s share of Cauvery water was 30 tmc ft, the Minister said.
