Dense fog accompanied with biting cold wave conditions have disrupted normal life in Rajasthan affecting rail and road traffic.

Eight trains of North Western Railways were running late by fifty minutes to about 4 hours due to fog in different parts of the state, an NWR PRO said on Sunday.

Fog also caused traffic jams on Delhi-Jaipur, Kota-Jaipur and Jodhpur-Ajmer highways this morning. Last night, as mercury plummeted to zero degree Celsius in Mount Abu, icicles were a common sight on trees and electric wires. Upper layer of Nakki Lake also showed icy flakes.

With on going western disturbance, the night temperature in the plains has risen by one to three degree Celsius but due to foggy days there appeared to be no respite from cold wave sweeping across the state, the MeT officials said here.

Sriganganagar recorded the lowest temperature of 1.7 degrees C in the plains, five degree below normal. Pilani recorded a minimum temperature of 3.8 deg C followed by Churu 4.1, Bikaner 5.7, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Ajmer and Chittorgarh recorded the minimum temperature in the range of 6 to 8 degree C.

In Jaipur, there was a little respite last night as the mercury shot up at 9.0 degree C but the dense foggy weather since morning aggravated the cold conditions during the day. Inclement weather will continue for next two days in the state, the MeT office said.

Meanwhile, ground frost in Alwar, Bharatpur, Sikar, Churu, Bikaner, Pali and Sirohi region has partially damaged the standing rabi crop specially wheat and mustard, an agriculture department source said.
