The Directorate General of Central Excise Intelligence (DGCEI), the apex intelligence agency under the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) for combating evasion of Central Excise Duty and Service Tax, opened a regional unit in Mangalore on Wednesday.
The Mangalore unit will spearhead the anti-evasion activities in the revenue districts of Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chamrajanagar, Chikmagalur, Hassan, Kodagu, Mandya, Mysore and Shimoga. D Purushotham, Commissioner of Customs, Mangalore, inaugurated the new unit, in the presence of Lakshmi Hande Puri, Commissioner of Income Tax, and M Subramanyam, Commissioner of Central Excise and Service Tax.
