However, the company will not be taking back the money paid to farmers.

Two weeks after JSW Steel said that it has scrapped its multi-crore steel-cum-power plant at Salboni in the West Midnapore district of the State, it has decided to surrender nearly 300 acres of land that it purchased directly from farmers there.

Confirming the decision, West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, told reporters at the State secretariat that despite the land being returned, the company will not be taking back the money given to farmers.

“JSW is still in possession of some the Government vested land that had been handed over to them for the project. They will take a call on it later,” she said.
