Kasturirangan visits Campco chocolate unit

Planning Commission member K. Kasturirangan visited the chocolate factory of Campco at Puttur in Dakshina Kannada district recently.

K. Padmanabha, President of Campco (Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative) Ltd, suggested that the Government set up a committee of experienced agriculturists and scientists to look into the issues related to arecanut cultivation. Padmanabha also highlighted the problems arising out of import of arecanut.

A press release said here on Saturday that Kasturirangan promised to place before Union Finance Minster P. Chidambaram and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar the problems confronting arecanut and cocoa farmers.

V.V. Bhat, Member (Finance) of Atomic Energy Commission, and Suresh Bhandary, Managing Director of Campco, were present on the occasion.
