Naidu stresses on energy conservation; steps to push LED bulbs

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on the occasion of National Energy Conservation (NEC) Day on December 14 appealed to the people to take a pledge to conserve precious energy for the benefit of present and future generations.

The Chief Minister said conservation of energy is essential in view of scarce natural resources like coal and natural gas. Besides, conservation helps to protect the environment from global warming. He released posters highlighting the significance of Energy Conservation and Efficiency.

He directed State Chief Secretary I.Y.R Krishna Rao to take steps to replace inefficient/incandescent filament bulbs with energy efficient LEDs in housing sector in a phased manner by 2015-16. He emphasised the need to bring in LED revolution by phasing out incandescent bulbs.

The Centre has appreciated the energy efficiency initiatives of the AP government and the big programme aimed at saving about 500 MW equivalent to 12 MU per day. So far 8.2 lakh LED bulbs have been distributed in Guntur district in first phase and planned to be extended to entire State.

The State would provide LED bulbs with market rate of Rs 400 per bulb at a nominal price of Rs10 through Demand Side Management-based Efficient Lighting Programme during the National Energy Conservation Week December 14-20.
