Two days after the meeting of the Congress Working Committee, the Congress seems to have decided to reach out to the Aam Aadmi party for a possible alliance in Delhi, Haryana and Punjab.
The Delhi unit of the party, which is reluctant to tie-up with the AAP, is likely to be overlooked by the party High Command, as AICC in-charge of the State PC Chacko is holding informal talks with Congress workers in the State over alliance with the AAP.
Sheila Dixit denies reports
Party’s Delhi unit chief and former chief minister Sheila Dikshit, however, denied any such attempts soon after reports emerged that Chacko had sent voice messages to Congress workers at various levels to ascertain their views on the possible tie-up.
“I had no idea that the party has sought feedback on the alliance, I got to know about this from media reports. They should have asked me before going to collect feedback on this. PC Chacko should have discussed this with me,” she told reporters here on Thursday. Chacko was not available for comments as he was travelling with Rahul Gandhi to Kerala.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had tweeted on Wednesday that the people of the country want to vote out Narendra Modi-Amit Shah combine. “If in Haryana, the AAP, the JJP and the Congress fight together, the BJP would lose the State’s 10 seats. Rahul Gandhi should think this over,” he said.
On Thursday, senior AAP leader and Minister Gopal Rai said talks on alliance might be late now.
“There is a very big challenge in front of the country and it is late now (for an alliance). After Congress’ official statement, AAP thought if the Congress is moving towards helping the BJP, we need to stop the BJP. So, the AAP’s agenda is full statehood and not alliance with Congress,” he said.
