Narendra Modi's pitch for a 'Gujarat-type of model' for growth comes at a time when West Bengal is struggling to draw investments into the State.

The Gujarat Chief Minister, Narendra Modi, is scheduled to speak on his 'vibrant growth' model at a seminar here in the city on Tuesday.

Organised jointly by three city-based chambers of commerce - the MCC Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Indian Chamber of Commerce and Bharat Chamber of Commerce - nearly 500 or more of the industry captains are expected to attend the seminar.

Those like Srei's Sunil Kanoria, GP Goenka of Duncans, his son Shrivardhan, Rajiv Mundhra of Simplex, MK Jalan of Keventer's and his son Mayank, Deepak Jalan of Linc Pens will be present at the seminar.

Others like Gaurav Swarup of Paharpur Cooling, who already have a presence in Gujarat, will attend the seminar.

Some big names like Harsh Neotia will not be present as they are out of the country.

A local business group, it may be recalled, has already pledged an investment of Rs 200 crore, in Modi's Gujarat.

Modi's pitch for a 'Gujarat-type of model' for growth comes at a time when West Bengal is struggling to draw investments into the State.

Apart from a few previous ones, most big names are yet to announce any major investments here. Those like Wipro and Infosys - who announced big ticket investments here - are also awaiting the necessary clearances from the West Bengal Government.

Interestingly though, Modi will not meet the West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee. Banerjee is currently in Delhi to meet the Prime Minister.
