AP to invite bids for mini hydel power projects

Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Company Ltd (AP Genco) has initiated the bidding process for selection of developers for setting up mini hydel projects in the State.

AP Genco has taken up the task on the directive of the State Government and on behalf of New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP).

Model bid document

Accordingly, a model bid document has been placed on AP Genco site (

www.apgenco.gov.in ) and suggestions have been invited by the prospective developers. The pre-bid interactive meeting will be held on January 10.

It has identified 92 potential sites with an aggregate capacity of 132 MW across 17 districts, with a majority of them located in Nalgonda district (20), Karimnagar (16), Adilabad (80), Guntur (7) among other locations. The estimated potential capacity varies from 0.1 MW to 5 MW.

Following the pre-bid meeting, AP Genco plans to open price bids by February 25.

Power generation

According to Chief Engineer, Hydel Projects, AP Genco, the energy generated from these projects will be utilised for captive consumption or for selling to third party within the State while offering part of the power to AP distribution companies. Whoever offers maximum free power will be allotted the project for implementation.

The State Government is making all-out efforts to encourage power generation from all sources, including from renewable energy. It has recently called for interest of developers to take up solar photovoltaic power generation farms with an aggregate capacity of over 1,100 MW. The process of selection is now underway.
