At 299 cases, Karnataka sees highest single-day spike

As more people return with the inter-State returnees from Maharashtra, Karnataka recorded its highest single-day spike in Covid-19 cases at 299. The State’s total tally has now gone up to 3,221 cases, with 1,218 discharges and 53 dead.

On Sunday, of the 299 cases, 255 cases were inter-State returnees mainly from Maharashtra, Delhi and international travellers — Doha, Malaysia and Indonesia.

As the intensity of sample testing has been increased, the daily reporting of case has been over 100 cases and has been continuously rising for the last six days.

The State government on May 30, issued orders extending lockdown measures in containment zones till June 30.

Karnataka Chief Secretary TM Vijaya Bhaskar said: “Night curfew is being strictly enforced between 9 pm and 5 am throughout the state. Containment zones will be demarcated by the district authorities after taking into consideration the guidelines of department of health and family welfare.”

In the State, there will be unrestricted movement of persons and goods. “There shall be no restriction on inter-state and intra-state movement of persons and goods. No separate permission approval e-permit will be required for such movements,” said the note.

Based on reasons of public health and assessment of the prevalence of Covid-19, separate orders will be issued by health and family department regarding inter-state movement of persons to Karnataka.
