To stake claim to form the government

The newly elected Bharatiya Janata Party legislature party is to meet to choose a leader and stake its claim to form a government.

Indications are that the BJP Karnataka president BS Yeddyurappa is expected to get elected. Before walking into the meet, Yeddyurappa said after the legislature party meeting, they would meet the Governor to stake claim to form the government. "We have also made arrangements to hold an oath-taking ceremony tomorrow (May 17)," he added.

Union Minister and former Karnataka chief minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda, criticising the JDS-Congress tune-up as an unholy nexus, said "we have seen how the two parties behaved in the last six months. Now they have teamed up to gain power through the back door." He further said "we (BJP) have emerged the single largest party in the recently concluded Karnataka assembly elections. We have called a legislature party meet today."

"The legislature party meet will take into account the advice of the party's central leadership and suggestions given by newly elected members," he added.
