Chopper service to airlift stranded pilgrims

The Andhra Pradesh Government has arranged for a copter service to air-lift the stranded pilgrims from the State in the flood-ravaged Uttarakhand.

State Minister for Civil supplies D. Sridhar Babu is currently stationed at Dehra Dun, closely monitoring the relief and rescue operations.

A team of 12 doctors consisting of physicians, surgeons, orthopaedic surgeons, nursing orderly with post graduates and house surgeons will be positioned in Dehra Dun and Haridwar from Monday and will be available for a week, an official communication said. Another team of 10 doctors is positioned in AP Bhavan from Sunday and will be stationed for a week. This is in addition to the four teams consisting of 10 people, which were earlier sent to Dehra Dun and Haridwar to extend assistance to the pilgrims. A special train will run from Haridwar to Andhra Pradesh on Monday.

Round-the-clock control rooms are working at Secretariat, Hyderabad, and at all district headquarters.

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy spoke over phone with State Ministers Sridhar Babu and Danam Nagender on the relief operations.
