Marathon talks end, says party’s State unit chief Solanki

Senior Congress leaders Ashok Gehlot (in picture) and Jitendra Singh who held talks with Gujarat MLAs, will submit a report to the Congress high-command, after which a decision will be taken

The appointment of the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader in Gujarat will be announced in a couple of days by the Central leadership, the party’s State unit chief Bharatsinh Solanki said here on Thursday.

Solanki’s statement came after two days of marathon meetings between the newly-elected MLAs from all the four regions of Gujarat and the party’s central observers Ashok Gehlot and Jitendra Singh.

The two central leaders will submit a report to the Congress high-command, which will make a formal decision on the matter over the next 2-3 days.

Strategy discussed During their meetings with the MLAs, Gehlot and Singh also discussed the party’s performance in the recently-concluded Assembly elections, and also initiated talks on the strategy to be adopted for the upcoming local-body elections in the State as well as the Lok Sabha elections of 2019.

However, recent reports point to factionalism emerging within the party’s 77 MLAs, who are reportedly divided between senior leaders Kunverji Bavaliya, Vikram Madam and young leader Paresh Dhanani for the post of CLP leader.
