Political parties are waiting for the fine print of the results of the bilateral negotiations between India and the US during the visit of President Barack Obama.
Welcoming the change in stance of the ruling BJP on the Nuclear Liability Act, the Congress said the move is a course correction from the part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP.
Citing Modi’s statement that civil nuclear agreement was the centrepiece of transformed relationship between India and the US, Congress leader Anand Sharma said the BJP had vehemently opposed it when they were in Opposition.
“It’s an expression of the significance of the Indo-US partnership,” Sharma told
Karat warned the Centre against changing the Nuclear Liability Act. “They (Centre) has gone out of the way to help the US. There should be no change on the question of liability on suppliers and the right of Indian citizens to approach courts in case of an accident against the suppliers,” Karat told BusinessLine .
Sharma and Karat, however, added they will take a final view on the deals that are signed after going through the details.
