Pakistani forces on Thursday night once again resorted to heavy firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch, Uri and Karnah sectors, while the Border Security Force (BSF) foiled an infiltration attempt in the Samba area.
Local residents told buisnessline that cross-border shelling began at around 11 pm and continued for several hours. According to them, several structures were damaged by the shelling. However, it was not immediately known if there were any casualties.
Mohammad Yousuf, a resident of Baila village, some 35 km from Poonch town, said that shells hit a government school and several residential houses in the area.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that one person was killed and four others were injured in Poonch district.
Several areas along the LoC in the Valley, including Uri, Karnah, and Tangdhar, were also hit by mortar and artillery fire.
Officials confirmed that a woman was killed when the vehicle she was traveling in was struck by a shell in Mohura, Uri.
A resident from the Karnah sector reported that dozens of residential houses were damaged due to the overnight firing by Pakistani forces.
“We are consumed by fear,” said the resident.
He added that nearby villages, including Baghbala, Hajinar, and Tangdhar, were also battered by the shelling.
The Indian Army responded proportionately to the Pakistani aggression, said the officials.
Meanwhile, the BSF thwarted a major infiltration bid along the International Border in the Samba district. According to a BSF spokesperson, the attempt occurred around 11 pm on Thursday, and the intruders were pushed back into Pakistani territory.
