Fighting against Modi not easy, says Kejriwal

The holy town of Varanasi is expected to witness an epic battle between former Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) founder Arvind Kejriwal and Gujarat Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

Addressing a massive public rally at Freedom Park in central Bangalore, Kejriwal said his party had asked him to contest the elections against Modi but he would seek a referendum from the voters in Varanasi during a rally on March 23 before taking a final decision.

“I will ask the people of Varanasi whether to fight election against Modi. Fighting election against Modi is not easy. I am a small

aadmi (person), who does not have the kind of money he has,” he said.

During his speech, Kejriwal tore into the claims of Modi about the growth of Gujarat. He said in several parameters, Gujarat was far behind several other States.

Modi, he said, had allowed former Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa to return to BJP even though the voters had rejected him during the last Assembly elections because of allegations of scams against him.

“Don’t let both (Congress and BJP) parties to win in Karnataka as they have been scam-ridden,” he said.

Every minister in Karnataka, he said, appear to be involved in illegal iron ore exports.

Dinner collection The much-publicised dinner to raise funds for AAP has yielded about ₹50 lakh.

On Saturday, AAP had hosted a subscription dinner to raise funds for the party’s election expense. Party chief Kejriwal addressed the gathering and answered questions on various issues plaguing the party and others issues.

The fundraising dinner saw about 200 people attending the event. The ticket for attending the dinner was ₹20,000/person.
