The Gujarat Government plans to tap clean energy – wind and solar power – to set up a cold storage chain for farm products as well as for desalinating sea water to make it potable.

“A cold storage chain from wind power is contemplated as it will be cheaper,” Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister of Gujarat, told presspersons.,

She said this after launching a new 120 m tall hybrid wind turbine tower developed by Suzlon and installed at a wind farm in Nani Ber in Kutch district.

Pointing out that the State has a 1,600 km long coastline, Patel said that the government was thinking of setting up desalination plants which can run on wind and solar energy to help create drinking water.
