The rapidly expanding metropolis of Hyderabad is in for a major transformation with a number of infra projects set to completed in the next two years, entailing an outlay of over ₹10,000 crore.
For a city ranked high by consultancy firm Mercer for the quality of living, the completion of the mega Hyderabad Metro project next year and the other projects, including the Strategic Road Development Project of ₹3000 crore and four major flyovers/skyways to decongest busy junctions and nodal city points, will make a lot of difference.
“Our objective is to transform Hyderabad into a truly global city in 6-7 years and these projects are part of that larger goal,” he said.
While the first phase of the ₹14,132-crore, 72-km-long, three-corridor elevated metro rail project is planned to be commissioned during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit in November, providing a major boost to the urban infrastructure, the Strategic Road Development Plan and the four mega flyovers such as the 11-km PVNR Expressway that connects the international airport, will provide a major boost.
During a recent interaction with Telangana Builders Forum, the Minister outlined some of the key projects and mentioned these projects would keep the builders busy.
Road projects The city has 9,000 km of roads and of this, about 290 km of key roads would be taken up under the SRDC with an investment of ₹3000 crore through Hyderabad Road Development Corporation, a special purpose vehicle. The contractors who execute the project will be responsible for its upkeep over the next seven years, he said.
Rao explained that the government is finalising four major expressways like the PVNR Expressway to make commute hassle-free. The State government is in talks with the defence authorities to acquire some sections of lands/properties in their possession to build flyovers. Flyovers and underpasses are planned from Jubilee Bus Stand to Shamirper-Turkapally, Uppal to Ghatkesar, Paradise Junction to Kompally and few other locations.
On Monday, Rao laid the foundation for a flyover that will decongest the Balanagar-Narsapur Junction, close to the industrial estate. Tender for the ₹387-crore project has been awarded and the work is expected to begin shortly.
The ₹1,665-crore Musi beautification project has been entrusted to a separate body. The project will transform the neglected river network and beautify the system.
