Medtronic to invest $50 million over five years in Pune GCC

Medical technology company Medtronic Plc has opened a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Pune, for its diabetes operations, and will invest $50 million over the next five years.

The centre is designed to drive innovation and operational excellence, and create over 300 service and software jobs in the first year of operations, with plans to double this number over the next four years, a Medtronic note said. 

For over four decades, the diabetes business has catered to people living with diabetes through innovations with the goal of improving outcomes. The diabetes GCC will enhances customer care, advanced analytics, digital tech services while also supporting patient financial services, and operations, it said.

The depth of talent in Pune and across India aligns with the company’s purpose, to support people living with diabetes with solutions that truly make life easier, said Que Dallara, Executive Vice President and President, Medtronic Diabetes, in the statement.

Vijendra Singh, Medtronic Diabetes, Global Capability Centre India Site Director and Senior Customer Service Director, added, We plan to work in close collaboration with local bodies, to drive meaningful progress in healthcare and create talent opportunities in the region.”

Medtronic had recently announced its intent to separate the diabetes business into an independent, publicly traded company, which will be called MiniMed once it begins operating as a standalone business.
