In its first press briefing after the swearing in of the Narendra Modi Government, the BJP claimed that the Centre has tamed the issue of price rise after meaningful administrative interventions.

Party general secretary and spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said the Modi Government is taking every possible step to deal with the situation after holding review meetings with senior officials and Ministers. “The Government has tamed price rise through its actions,” he said.

Hussain said the faith reposed by the voters was the energy behind the Government.

When asked about the imminent rise in railway passenger fares, he said the economy is in shambles.

“Modi had said that some tough decisions have to be taken as the UPA ruined the economy of the country. Both the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister are trying their best to revive the economy,” he said.

He said the voters kicked the Congress out for their inability to manage the economy. Chiding former Finance Minister P Chidambaram, he said the real state of the economy will be known to the people once the Centre releases the Economic Survey. “Chidambaram claims he has left behind a sound economy. He should understand that people have left the Congress behind in the elections,” he said.

On the circular by the Prime Minister’s Office to the Ministers to avoid appointing private secretaries who had served the UPA Government, Hussain said the Government does not believe in protecting a group of people who always enjoy power.

On the demand for the resignation of Minister of State Nihalchand Meghwal from the Council of Ministers, the BJP spokesperson said the controversy is a creation of the Opposition.

“His name is nowhere in the first and second FIRs. In the closure report, too, his name is not mentioned,” Hussain said, adding that the PMO is holding no probe into the controversy. “It is a non-issue,” he said.
