A day after former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh launched a scathing attack on the economic policies of the NDA government and later paid a visit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi hit out at the “ideology of one-upmanship” being practiced by the Centre.
Taking a jibe at Modi, the Nehru family scion said the former took lessons ( pathshala ) on economics from Manmohan, as the present government is incompetent in managing the economy.
He was speaking at a convention organised by the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), the students’ outfit of Congress.
On Wednesday, Manmohan had attacked the Modi regime from the same podium, saying the country’s economy is in doldrums. He said rural India is facing an unprecedented crisis due to the Centre’s policies.
Rahul took the attack forward, saying: “The former Prime Minister said the economy is going down. After that, Modi took a one-hour lesson from our leader. I think Modi wanted to learn lessons from Manmohan Singh to understand how the economy of this country can be managed. I will ask him (Manmohan) about this,” the Amethi MP said.
Attacking the Centre’s policy framework, he said: “You wait and watch, the result of the Make in India programme will be zero. No programme can be successful without taking the poor of the country into confidence.”
