New India Assurance healthcover for Tirupur workforce

Coverage under the MediPlus 365 plan

Tirupur Exporters Association has tied up with New India Assurance Company to provide medical coverage to the knitwear cluster workforce.

TEA President Raja M Shanmugham told BusinessLine that there were about 4.5 lakh labourers covered under the ESI (Employees State Insurance) scheme in Tirupur.

‘ESI unsatisfactory’
“There are just two ESI dispensaries here and the facilities are pathetic. We have been drawing the attention of the government to the apathy, but to no avail,” Shanmugham said.

“We held discussions with various insurance companies and settled for the public sector New India Assurance for covering the workforce under the MediPlus 365 Plan,” he added.

Rollout on May 1 It will be rolled out on May 1. The contribution of the employee under the plan would be ₹1 a day for 365 days.

If the worker wishes to cover his/her family as well, they have to contribute ₹1 per individual for each additional member.

The proposed plan will cover all ailments except cosmetic treatment and HIV.

The worker can undergo cashless treatment at any of the designated hospitals and the Indian Medical Association has pledged support to the proposal, the TEA president said.
