It was almost noon, when Lok Sabha’s attention was drawn to the second anniversary of the Nirbhaya gang-rape case by three women members. Raising the issue during Zero Hour, BJP member Kirron Kher demanded a law to protect those who help accident victims, adding that Nirbhaya could have survived had passersby rushed her to hospital after she was found on roadside. She said she had moved a private member’s Bill last week, for the need of such a law.
Sushmita Dev of the Congress said cases disposed off by fast-track courts relating to rape and crime against women were pending before the apex court, and urged the Government to move the apex court for early disposal of the gang-rape case.
Meenakshi Lekhi of the BJP appreciated the work of the Delhi Police in the recent Uber rape case, and reminded the House that December 16 was not just the anniversary of the gang-rape case but also Vijay Diwas to mark the victory of the Indian Armed Forces in the 1971 war.
