Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair the Niti Aayog Governing Council on Saturday to underscore critical role of State governments in India becoming a developed nation by 2047.

The 10th meeting of the Niti Aayog Governing Council, will be attended by Chief Ministers, Lieutenant Governors, and administrators from across the country, at Bharat Mandapam, carrying the central theme: “Viksit Rajya, Viksit Bharat @2047”.

Modi is expected to highlight the kind of state-level progress needed for making possible aspirations of a developed India.

The heads of States will get an opportunity to deliberate significantly on “Promoting Entrepreneurship, Employment and Skilling - Leveraging the Demographic Dividend,” sources said.

With India’s youth representing a massive opportunity, discussions are expected to centre on three key areas:

Manufacturing and Services Ecosystem: Leaders will explore strategies for creating enabling environments beyond metropolitan centres, with particular emphasis on developing Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities as new growth engines.

The discussions are likely to draw attention of States over the need for infrastructure development, skill training, and policy support to attract investments to these emerging urban centres.

The Council will also discuss the MSME and Informal Employment. Recognising that micro, small, and medium enterprises form the backbone of India’s economy, the meeting will address rural non-farm employment opportunities and urban informal sector challenges, said sources.

CMs of States are expected to share State-specific initiatives and best practices for supporting MSMEs and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities.

However, some States may also raise their claim for a rightful financial share in the Union Budget as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced in Chennai before stating that he was going to attend the Niti Aayog meeting.

Discussions have also been lined up on green economy opportunities which is in line with India’s commitment to sustainable development.
