Samsung looks for 20% growth in sales during Onam season

Samsung India is looking for a growth rate of 20 per cent in Kerala during the Onam festival season. The company is targeting sales revenue of Rs 225 crore during July-September period.

Unveiling the Onam offers here on Tuesday, Mr Mahesh Krishnan, vice-president, Home Appliances Business, Samsung India, said that the growth drivers in the Kerala market during the festival season would be flat TV’s, refrigerators and home appliances.

The company is aiming to sell 30,000 units of TVs in the season, he said, adding that it has earmarked Rs 12 crore as part of marketing campaign in the State.

The company has launched ‘Samsung Smart Onam offer’ for customers to win gifts for their purchase of Samsung products. Gifts worth Rs 3.8 crore are being given away during the promotion period, he said.

“We have also strengthened our product offering by launching smart TVs, new LED TVs as well as exciting home appliance products,” he added.

Mr Raj Kumar Rishi, vice-president, AV Business, said that the panel TV market in the country is showing a consistent growth and it would touch 9 million units by 2015 from the present 4.5 million units.

The company is expecting a growth rate of 18 per cent this year considering the increasing demand from rural customers, he said.

Samsung is also looking at fuelling an upgradation to LED TV’s and is confident of achieving 35 per cent market share in the flat panel TV category and 60 per cent share in the smart TV segment in the country by the end of this year, he said.

Last year, the company had clocked a sales revenue of Rs 20,000 crore. Of this, 45 per cent of the sales come from consumer electronics division. South dominates with 33 per cent in the national sales whereas Kerala’s share is 13 per cent.
