Shah takes a dig at Rahul over Cong’s loss in Amethi

Buoyed by the party’s victories in the Uttar Pradesh civic body elections, BJP President Amit Shah on Friday mocked Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi for his party’s losses, especially in the Amethi MP’s home turf.

The BJP won the municipal polls in Amethi, which is a Congress bastion.

Shah took a dig at the Congress and its leaders over its development claims.

“As [Gujarat] chief minister, Narendra Modi lifted 19,000 villages of the State from darkness and provided 24-hour power. In Amethi, the home of three generations of the Nehru-Gandhi family, there are several villages where even electricity cables are not installed, let alone 24 hours of power,” Shah said, at an election rally in Veraval of Gir-Somnath district.

The BJP chief held three rallies in the Junagadh and Gir Somnath districts, which are crucial considering the farmers’ unrest and the Patidar reservation agitation.

Hitting out at the Congress Vice-President’s criticism of the unemployment scenario in Gujarat, Shah said Rahul should first listen to the 13,600 youth from Amethi who are working in Gujarat and try to understand what made them migrate to Gujarat?

“These youth from Surat will take out a rally to Ambaji revealing the real scenario of Amethi,” Shah said, appealing to the people of Gujarat not to pay heed to the falsehood being spread by Congress leaders.

“He has been visiting Gujarat frequently for past the two months, and has not bothered about his own home ground. The UP civic body polls have yet again proved that the people in the entire country support the BJP and the leadership of Narendra Modi,” he said, adding that the same will be repeated in Gujarat on December 18, when the election results will be announced.

Shah once again reiterated the target of 150 seats for the BJP in the 182-seat Assembly elections. “Each one of you, pick up your phone and call at least 15 others to appeal them to vote for BJP,” he told the gathering of youth and farmers.
