Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) is expecting revenues of Rs 257.66 crore during 2013-14 in the Budget presented on Thursday.
Presenting the Budget at the MCC council meeting here, R. Shantha, Chairperson of the Finance and Taxation Standing Committee in the council, said the MCC is expecting a revenue of Rs 257.66 crore and expenditure of Rs 257.60 crore, leading to a surplus of Rs 6.04 crore during the year.
On revenue estimations, she said the MCC is expecting Rs 35 crore from water cess, Rs 29 crore from property tax and Rs 15 crore from solid waste management cess, among others. The other revenue sources would be various grants from the Government and the State Finance Commission.
On the expenditure side, she said the MCC is planning to spend Rs 17.95 crore for various development programmes, Rs 14.25 crore for repair and maintenance works in the city, Rs 25 crore for solid waste management and Rs 3 crore for the construction of the vented dam for Tumbe reservoir to supply water to the city.
The storage in the existing reservoir at Tumbe could meet the demand for 45 days. Keeping the development of the city in mind, the proposed reservoir would be built. When completed, storage in the reservoir would meet demand for 120 days, she said. The new reservoir was likely to be completed by May 2014, she added.
Mangalore City Corporation, which has 60 wards, has jurisdiction over 135 sq km in the region, and serves a population of 5 lakh people.
