Young, tough commandos will guard the country’s biggest onshore oilfield in Rajasthan.

Called ‘Thar Falcons’, these specially trained commandos took charge on Friday, after an intensive field training capsule at various Cairn India’s locations in Barmer.

This is the first time that trained commandos are being deployed at the 1.6 sq km Managla terminal and the associated fields in Barmer.

According to Cairn, the Union Government and the State Government of Rajasthan had advised the company to induct a well-trained armed group as a measure to respond to a terrorist attack in the prolific oilfields in the Thar Desert.

“This advisory was complied on July 27 with 115 personnel of Border Home Guards of Rajasthan being formally inducted at Cairn India oilfields in Barmer,” the company said.

This group had undergone an intense commando course at Rajasthan Police Training Cenre, Jodhpur.
