Top politicos, industrialists to attend Modi swearing-in ceremony

Even before the counting of votes polled in the Assembly elections began on December 20, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi was supervising preparations for the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors’ Summit next month.

Modi will be sworn in only on December 26. Around 20,000 people are expected to attend the Gujarat strongman’s massive swearing-in ceremony at the Sardar Patel stadium here on Wednesday. Besides most BJP leaders, chief ministers of many NDA-ruled States too will attend the glittering function. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa is expected to attend the ceremony, and attempts are being made to rope in her Odisha counterpart, Navin Patnaik, too.

There is also speculation whether Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar would attend , given his reservations over the Gujarat CM’s likely projection as the National Democratic Alliance’s prime ministerial candidate.

Biennial event

A number of businessmen-industrialists are also expected to be present on the occasion. A meeting of the newly-elected BJP MLAs will be held on Tuesday to elect the Leader of the House. Since the polls left three Cabinet and four Ministers of State defeated, some new faces are expected to be inducted.

Meanwhile, the State Government is going ahead with the biennial Vibrant Gujarat event scheduled to be held from January 11 to 13.

Nearly 45 seminars, workshops and symposia have been lined up on different sectors in the coming weeks, leading to the main event in which top businessmen-industrialists will participate.

In 2011, nearly 8,000 MoUs promising investments worth over Rs 20 lakh crore were signed.
