The construction work on Trans Arunachal Highway, a dream project of the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, has been stopped with its executing agency deciding to halt the ongoing work for an indefinite period.

The decision to halt construction works by Hyderabad-based SRK Constructions Private Ltd was taken in the wake of repeated attacks on its employees in recent times, the company officials said.

We have decided to halt the construction work for an indefinite period until our employees are provided with security personnel at their camp and work sites, the company said in a press release.

The company mentioned that in one attack, Mr Sombhu Shankar Rai, a senior surveyor, was allegedly attacked by his driver Ashi Riba at the company’s Pangin camp in East Siang district on Saturday, injuring him critically.

Mr Rai was rushed to Pangin community health centre from where he was shifted to Aalo district hospital yesterday.

The driver has been arrested, the police said.

Saturday’s incident took place within a fortnight when the project manager of the construction company was attacked by two youths on July 17, before its director and managing director.
