To train Bangladeshis and transfer the technology as well

The Institute for Solid Waste Research and Ecological Balance, a local private research body, is taking FaL-G technology (fly ash brick making) to Bangladesh on the invitation of the Bangla Government, according to N Kalidas, the director.

He was speaking here on Tuesday at an interaction session with a delegation of brick manufacturers from Bangladesh. He said Bangladesh was planning to add 15,000 MWs of thermal power likely to generate 15-20 lakh tonnes of fly ash per annum. “Bangladesh Government is proactively taking steps, unlike our Government, to deal with the problem in the initial stages. They want to set up fly ash brick units making use of FaL-G Technology developed by our institute. We will train Bangladeshis and transfer the technology,” he said.

Kalidas said a delegation of conventional clay brick manufacturers from Bangladesh had visited various fly ash brick units in and around Visakhapatnam and “they are now convinced of the usefulness of the technology. Next month a Government delegation from Bangladesh will visit Vizag and then we will take up the project in Bangladesh. A pilot plant will be taken to Bangladesh to demonstrate the technology.”

He said in Bangladesh FaL-G technology could be used not only for brick manufacture but also for high-strength aggregate required for concrete. “Bangladesh does not have many stone quarries and therefore it is very useful for them,” he added.

Sadrul Islam, a member of the Bangla delegation, said INSWAREB, the US-based NGO, Institute for Industrial Productivity, and others were promoting the technology in Bangladesh. He thanked Kalidas for his help. He said it would help in preserving the top soil in Bangladesh and also in safe disposal of fly ash produced in power generation.
