The two-day conference of power ministers from different States and Union Territories will be held here on April 27 and April 28 and it will be presided over by Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal.

The conference will discuss the central schemes on power generation, energy conservation, coal availability and related issues. State Power Minister K. Venkata Rao said that Piyush Goyal had confirmed his participation in the event.

He said the State was able to generate 3,000 MWs of solar power and a policy on non-conventional energy would be formulated soon.

He said AP stood first in reducing transmission and distribution losses. "Our transmission loss is 4.5 per cent and theft and other losses amount to 5 per cent. By making use of digital technologies, if we can reduce it by 1 per cent, we can save Rs 300 crores," he said.

Venkata Rao said the State Government was distributing 2,000 solar pumpsets to farmers on payment of Rs 55,000, with a subsidy component of Rs 3.35 lakh per set. Industrial power connections would also be expedited in the State, he added.
