The Kerala High Court today adjourned to April 19 the anticipatory bail plea of Naval officer Lt Ravi Kiran, whose wife has filed a police complaint alleging harassment and cruelty by him.

The April 4 complaint by the wife of the officer that she had been subjected to harassment by his husband and his colleagues at the Southern Naval Command here has triggered a controversy with the Navy ordering an internal probe into the matter.

Denying the charges against him by his wife, Kiran stated in his petition that she filed the complaint after he moved a family court seeking divorce.

Police have registered a case against 10 people including Kiran under Section 498 of the IPC (Enticing or taking away or detaining with criminal intent a married woman).

The woman in her complaint alleged she was “tortured” for dowry and seniors and colleagues of her husband had attempted to molest her.

However, the Navy had denied her charges saying the complaint was the result of “a marital discord” and the allegations raised by the woman against “superior officers” were “unfair”.

Meanwhile, police sources said that probe in the case was progressing.
