Power generation has been affected in some of the plants in Andhra Pradesh adding to the shortage as demand-supply gap has increased.

According to sources in the power sector, generation has been stalled in Lanco Kondapalli power plant near Vijayawada due to disruption in gas supply and technical snags in NTPC Simhadri power plant near Vizag.

While the gas supply to Lanco has been impacted due to yesterday’s pipeline blast in East Godavari, in the case of thermal power plant, there is boiler tube leak. This is being addressed and it is hoped that the snags will be rectified by either later this evening or early on Sunday.

After the gas pipeline blast, the Lanco team hinted that there is no disruption of power generation. But today the supply has been impacted causing disruption to power generation.

Power woes

The problems in these two power plants have further added to AP woes.

In the case of AP, the demand was 147 million units per day as on Friday and the supply was 126 MUs, leaving a gap of 21 mu. The outages and fuel supply crunch have added to power sector woes.

Power cuts

There is a significant shortage in Telangana too leading to prolonged unscheduled power cuts for both domestic and industrial consumers.

Telanagna has stepped up efforts to procure power from the neighbouring States of Karnataka and Chhattisgarh. It is stated to have struck a deal for procurement of about 250 MW from Karnataka.

While there is no official statement on the move, it is learnt that Telangana is contemplating power holiday for industrial consumers.
