NGRI scientists bag three national awards

Scientists from the city-based National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) have won three prestigious national awards during 2012.

M. Ram Mohan, of the Geochemistry division, won the Krishnan Gold medal awarded by the Indian Geophysical Union. The award given to a geophysicist/geologist below 40 years was presented to Ram Mohan at the 49th IGU annual convention in Gandhinagar, Gujarat by V.P. Dimri recently.

E. Nagaiah, senior technical assistant of the groundwater division won the S.C. Puranic Award for the Young Scientist of the year 2012 from the International Groundwater Conference. The award is given to a scientist below 35 years, for contributions in hard rock hydrology and related areas.

Nagaiah, a doctorate from the Osmania University, did work in the deccan volcanic province using integrated geophysical methods, a release from the NGRI said.

Parijat Roy, of geochemistry division received the Indian Science Congress Association Young Scientist Award for 2012-13 in the Earth System Sciences category for his work on the kimberlites from eastern Dharwar Craton.

He received the award at the 100th session of the Science Congress at Kolkata during January 3-7.
