The company will establish an integrated manufacturing plant at the Medical Devices Park in Oragadam, Chennai, to produce mechanical thrombectomy kits used for treating acute ischemic stroke

The Technology Development Board (TDB) under the Department of Science and Technology has sanctioned financial support to S3V Vascular Technologies Limited, Mysuru, for developing India’s first indigenous mechanical thrombectomy device manufacturing facility.

The Mysuru-based company will establish an integrated manufacturing plant at the Medical Devices Park in Oragadam, Chennai, to produce mechanical thrombectomy kits used for treating acute ischemic stroke caused by large vessel occlusion. The devices offer superior outcomes compared to conventional thrombolysis, significantly reducing paralysis and disability risks.

S3V will become the first Indian company to indigenously design and manufacture the complete suite of neuro-intervention devices, including microcatheters, aspiration catheters, guidewires and stent retriever systems. The company plans to file patents for innovations, including clot retriever head design and braid-over-coil aspiration catheter structures.

The initiative aims to replace expensive imported devices with locally manufactured alternatives, targeting integration into government programs like Ayushman Bharat. The domestic market is estimated at $2 billion. S3V also plans to collaborate with hospitals for simulator-based training, particularly in Tier-II cities where stroke burden is high.

The company has initiated CE and US FDA approval processes to expand access across India, Asia, Latin America, Europe and the United States.
