Spectrum auctions bid reach ₹ 63,500 cr

The telecom spectrum auctions have not seen any activity yet on the 700MHz and 900MHz even at the end of the fourth day on Wednesday.

The bidding has reached around ₹ 63,500 crore by the end of rounds so far on the fourth day.

The auctions will continue tomorrow and the government has got commitment of 956.8MHz of spectrum out of the total 2,354.75 MHs put up for auctions this year till end of day four.

There will be 45 minutes given for each round from Thursday as compared to one hour each till Wednesday. The first day of the auctions had 1-1/2 hours of each of the five rounds (Saturday).

The activity had reached 100 per cent on the day three on Tuesday of the auctions.

Analysts and officials at Department of Telecom (DoT) expected the auctions would continue for the next few days. Last year also, the 100 per cent activity started after 75 rounds of auctions, out of the total 115 rounds that lasted for 19 days.

The seven telecom operators, including Airtel, Aircel, Idea, Reliance Communications (RCom), Jio and Vodafone, are participating in the auctions. They had submitted total earnest money deposit (EMD) of around ₹ 15,000 crore
