IPL betting case: One suspect secured; hotelier under lens

The Tamil Nadu police has ‘secured’ Sanjay Baffna, one of the suspects involved in IPL betting, at the Chennai airport “while he was trying to enter the country”, according to a statement from the Crime Branch Criminal Investigation Department (CBCID).

The statement, said, “decision regarding follow-up action, like arrest, shall be taken after his interrogation.” Baffna is believed to be coming from South Africa, according to sources.

Meanwhile, according to the source, a Chennai-based hotelier is also under the lens as he was “found making calls to a bookie.”

Ten days ago, the police had arrested six ‘bookies’ for suspected betting.

The CBCID statement said, “The case is being investigated in a professional manner. Call details, documents seized and electronic devices are being analysed.”
