The Board of Control for Cricket in India will implead itself in a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the Rajasthan Sports Act that allowed Lalit Modi to participate in the Rajasthan Cricket Association elections. Modi, the former commissioner of Indian Premier League (IPL), has been barred from taking part in the activities of the BCCI .

The BCCI, which governs Indian cricket, will intervene in the Special Leave Petition filed by Kishore Rungta, President of Sawai Madhopur District Cricket Association, in the Supreme Court challenging the Rajasthan Sports Act.

The Board will also “get clarified the position of BCCI to enable the enforcement of its resolution passed on September 25 expelling Lalit Modi” , according to a statement issued by BCCI Secretary Sanjay Patel.

Lalit Modi was expelled for life from BCCI at a special general meeting for “misconduct and indiscipline”. The Board had said he will not be allowed to associate in any way with BCCI. The Rajasthan Cricket Association is a part of the BCCI.

The Board’s working committee met today to decide the course of action to enforce the expulsion. Lalit Modii contested for the post of the president to the RCA after his expulsion.

Subject to the decision of the Supreme Court, strict disciplinary action should be taken against the delinquent member association while protecting the interest of the game in Rajasthan, BCCI said.

The committee also discussed issues pertaining to the activities of the anti corruption unit, the statement said.

Mehmood Abdi, the RCArepresentative tasked with presenting its case before the BCCI, told media persons he was not allowed to attend the meeting to explain the association’s position.

Abdi, who is also the president of Ganganagar District Association, said the RCA secretary K.K. Sharma had asked BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel for an opportunity to represent RCA’scase. He alleged he was prevented from attending the meeting and hence he could not present the association’s case to the committee.
