Mangalore gets cricket academy

The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) will formally inaugurate a cricket academy in Mangalore on December 10.

Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Srikanth Rai, Convenor of KSCA (Mangalore zone), said that Royal Challengers-Karnataka State Cricket Association Academy will nurture cricket talents in the Mangalore zone of KSCA. This zone consists of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kodagu districts.

The academy will be set up at Sahyadri College Campus at Adyar near Mangalore. Already 60 people have begun practice at the academy, he said.

The academy will serve as the centre of excellence of cricket. It is equipped with modern facilities, and is ready with six turf wickets, bowling machines etc. There will be different coaches for batting, bowling and fielding, he said.

Shantaram Shetty, Pro-Chancellor of Nitte University, will declare open the new facility on December 10. Shashikiran Shetty, Chairman and Managing Director of Allcargo Global Logistics Ltd, will be the guest of honour on the occasion.

Anil Kumble, President of KSCA, and Javagal Srinath, Secretary of KSCA, will be present on the occasion, he said.

Rai said that the KSCA is planning development of turf grounds at two places in Mangalore, and one at Moodbidri in Dakshina Kannada district. Work on these projects will begin soon.
