The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) conducted mock drills at 126 locations across all 14 districts of the State on Wednesday, following long air raid sirens at district headquarters and alerts via public address systems elsewhere. KSDMA sirens were sounded at 100 locations, according to an update from the Authority.
The drill emphasised community-level and household interventions during simulated wartime scenarios, involving personnel from Kerala Fire and Rescue Services, the State Police, disaster management teams, civil defence forces, and the Revenue Department. Locations were selected from enclosed spaces such as offices, public buildings, malls, and theatres with high footfall.
Mandatory blackout and evacuation protocols were followed, while ambulances and fire and rescue vehicles responded to simulated emergencies. The exercise concluded when shorter-duration ‘all-clear’ sirens were sounded after 30 minutes.
