Nothing short of separate State will do, says TRS

The Telangana bandh called by the Telangana Rasthra Samithi on Saturday to protest against the detention of its supporters on Friday during the Chalo Assembly march, evoked partial response in Hyderabad.

There was, however, some impact in the neighbouring districts of Mahbubnagar, Warangal, Medak, Karimnagar and Nizambad, with life coming to a standstill for a few hours in the morning. There was no access to public transport.

Life was unaffected in the city although most schools and colleges remained closed. With the APSRTC running partial services, offices, banks and other commercial establishments reported almost normal operations. Trains ran as per schedule from Hyderabad.

The police picked up hundreds of pro-Telangana supporters from different parts of the city in the morning.

There were disturbances at the Osmania University campus after an engineering student committed suicide, allegedly due to the delay in granting statehood to Telangana.

B. Srinivas was found hanging from a tree opposite the library on campus early this morning.

More clashes

The incident set off another round of clashes between the police and the students, who demanded that the body be allowed to be brought from the hospital to the campus for paying their last respects .

Responding to a proposal for a package to Telangana, the TRS made it clear that nothing short of a separate state for Tenangana would be acceptable.
