TN to launch cotton mission, allocates Rs 50 cr to expand acreage

Cotton cultivation in Tamil Nadu will get a boost with the launch of a cotton cultivation mission from 2014-15.

The State Government has made an initial outlay of Rs 50 crore to bring 3.70 lakh acres under cotton crop next year.

Cotton is cultivated in 3.34 lakh acres now. Over the next five years the target will be to bring 6 lakh acres under cotton, Finance Minister O. Paneerselvam said while presenting the budget.
