On this matrimony site, photographs are passe, videos make the match

Why upload a matrimony profile with a bland photo, when you can do a nice, self-introducing video?

DilKeRishte, a Jaipur-based matrimonial firm, offers just this service, convinced that the profiles on online matrimony sites have become routine and just duplicate the brick-and-mortar matrimony services.

Trendsetter

The firm says the service will set a trend in the ₹1,000-crore online matrimony services market with a base of 43 lakh registered users.

About 30 per cent of the market is served by the unorganised sector. The market is growing at 10 per cent annually, providing a huge scope for novel services.

“Photos can be deceptive and chances of making up are very high. But in videos, one can get an objective view of the prospective groom or bride, making it easier to decide,” Suresh Nair, Founder-Director of DilKeRishte.com, told BusinessLine .

The firm, which announced a national launch of the offering here on Wednesday, provides two services. “The basic service starts at ₹6,000 where one can produce a video with our help, at our facility. Our team will sit with them and suggest how to present themselves,” he said.

In the premium segment, professionals from the start-up will visit the place of a subscriber’s choice to shoot a video.

Safety

He said users have control on who can view their video profiles. “We will send a link to the target user and the link would expire after the permitted time,” said Suresh.

Asked about the safety of videos, he said not all can download the videos. Hackers could do that. “But then people are freely posting their videos on Facebook or Instagram these days,” he argued.
