British police said they believed the Special Air Service, or SAS, was not involved in the 1997 deaths of Diana, Princess of Wales, and Dodi Fayed, media reports said early Tuesday.
It was widely reported earlier in the year that British police were looking into claims that a member of the military had killed the couple.
But a Metropolitan Police statement quoted by the Press Association news agency said there was “no credible evidence” of SAS involvement, and that there was no evidence to warrant a criminal investigation.
An official police report into the allegations was due to be issued later on Tuesday.
