A fire broke out today in a multi-storey garment factory building outside the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka, a day after at least 124 people were killed in a blaze that swept through another factory here.

Fire fighters brought the fire at the 10-storey Aslam Complex in Dakkhin Khan’s Mollartek in the capital under control, two hours after it caught fire this morning, Bdnews reported quoting Fire Service Director Brig Gen Abu Nayeem Mohammad Shahidullah as saying.

The Aslam Complex houses three garment factories — Swan Garments, McCoy Sweater Ltd and Sir Denim Ltd.

No casualties have been reported so far, though a youth fainted while assisting fire fighters, the report said.

The blaze comes after a fire in another clothes factory in suburban Ashulia Savar, 30 km from Dhaka, killed at least 124 people.

Meanwhile, thousands of garment workers from the Tazreen Fashion factory staged protests today, demanding better protection.

Some demonstrators reportedly threw stones at factories and smashed vehicles.
