Mercedes-Benz India is all set to launch the V-Class luxury multi-purpose vehicle on January 24, 2019. Starting off the new year with a very different vehicle that is part of a difficult-to-sell segment, MB India must be targeting individual buyers from joint families and must be hoping to cater to buyers from the hospitality and taxi segments too.

The V-Class luxury MPV has been rolled out in a phased manner in multiple markets during the last four years. The right-hand drive version is already available in markets like the UK and Japan. Unlike the erstwhile R-Class MPV/SUV, which was discontinued in 2013 in most markets, the V-Class has been quite successful. It is now sold in over 90 countries.

The V-Class is offered in multiple trim levels including a 4MATIC version, a AMG Line and a top-of-the-line luxurious variant labelled Exclusive. The V-Class is expected to bring flagship sedan-style luxury into the MPV segment with nappa leather seats, one of the largest sunroofs in the segment and a 16-speaker Burmester surround sound music system. The V-Class also boasts of other comfort and safety features including active parking assist, attention assist and crosswind assist. We will have to wait for the official launch later this month for more details regarding the variant strategy for the Indian market.
